This work is a large structure of shelves, created in an archival mode; locating and collecting ideas and practices related to the craft process of manual sewing and needle work.

As a sculptor, and a practitioner, the form of an ‘image’ is a confrontation with the ‘real’. A work takes its shape from and within this ‘real’. Thus, all objects, materials, things etc are a negotiation not just with materiality but also negotiations with human ideas, that gave existence to those materials, objects, things....

Location of language within this realm is actually about framing, about recasting the real into a mediation, a zone from where ‘work’ is said to begin. It is ‘work’ that produces a sense to reality, an understanding, a situation of cause and effect, being and becoming. This work is an archive which summarises a larger body of work. It is mounted on long shelves almost as a long endless chain (of the spine/backbone), mounted on a wall. The bulky wooden shelves are contrasted with fragile glass frames mounted within it, to hold the ideas and experiences related to the processes of sewing. In this sense, all tools, methods, materials and various historic images are all seen in the realms of ideas (experiences) that have contributed to sewing.This archive of tools, techniques and ideas related to a manual process could be an ever expanding infinite chain of elements, much beyond just collected ‘words’ in a dictionary. For me, to explore a paradigm like this was an important exercise to understand the experience of working with hands, manually. In fact, this process is what finally harmonizes me within a zone of what is said to be a ‘reality’.
