(RECONSTRUING THE BODY)
2009
The work is a series of ten frames that try to create a paradigm to understand the noton of ‘body’ affected by the languages and processes of crafts. Body parts are considered as small units or entities in themselves, and not as a part of the larger machinery called ‘the body’. These small entities function and get affected by the manual processes of ‘technique’. Here, to make these newer associations, the layering of various languages is crucial, and hence the body is seen as a series of verbs- the doing verbs, each transforming the noun(name of the body part), and thus giving a new meaning to the body.
Each work is a kind of informal diptych, comprising of a visual and a text. Both of these are executed by techniques of hand embroidery, on hand towels.
Dimensions vary slightly for each of the 10 frames.
Average size: 10’’ x 22’’
