ANATOMY OF LABOUR II

ANATOMY OF LABOUR II
2019

In the form of a wilted desert flower, this work reproduces a spatial,  tactile, body association to understand modern labor. The choice of materials is due to the agrarian histories of cotton, jute and coir (coconut fibre). The dry parched body, of rough natural materials, like jute and coir, is brought together with the intense wet sensations of the body’s interiors, blood, sweat and bodily fluids.
The form, created with handmade techniques of sewing, tying, knotting, holds certain affectual, spatial resonance for the viewer, as a surreal presence of an immense body, large and looming but equally intimate, in proximity of the viewer.

Burlap (jute fabric), handloom cotton fabric,
Synthetic Velvet, Iron and plastic armature,
Coir rope, acrylic paint, Synthetic/Newspaper  filler.

Dimensions vary when installed.
(approximate:  350 x 100 x 100 cms )
